 IC Design Engineer
Founded in 1963, BIOTRONIK, Inc. is a pioneer in developing innovative technologies and medical devices that save and enhance the quality of life for millions of individuals living with cardiovascular conditions. With a growing base of over 4,000 employees worldwide, we're continually looking for talented professionals with the passion and drive for excellence to join our mission.

Micro Systems Engineering, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of BIOTRONIK Gmbh., Inc. now has an exciting opportunity available for an IC Design Engineer in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Relocation assistance will be provided.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The IC Design Engineer is a senior position in the Integrated Circuit Design Department within MSEI. It involves making significant contributions to and active involvement in all aspects of IC design, including concept/specification development, design partitioning and block level design, detailed circuit design and simulation, layout floor-planning and transistor level layout, bench verification and testing, test vector development, and documentation. The individual in this position will directly interact and collaborate with system level, hardware, firmware, IC design, test, and layout engineers in teams located at design centers within the United States (US) as well as in Germany.

This role also involves the heavy use of state-of-the-art CAD tools associated with the design, simulation, integration and verification of integrated circuits. In particular, the individual must be familiar with specific Cadence tools used by the US development team for mixed signal IC design. Additional familiarity with related Mentor and Synopsys tools is highly desirable. The individual in this position reports to the Group Leader of IC design in the Oregon ICD group and will work closely with the Director of IC Design in Texas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop high performance mixed-signal IC functional blocks for implantable medical products.
  • Be involved with and provide leadership in all aspects of IC design including concept/specification development, design partitioning, block level design, detailed circuit design, circuit simulation, layout floor-planning, transistor level layout, bench verification and testing, test-vector development, and documentation.
  • Design very low-power, low-voltage analog IC functional blocks including voltage/current references, operational amplifiers, comparators, switched-capacitor circuits (amplifiers, filters, charge pumps, etc.), ADCs and DACs, oscillators, switching power circuits, etc.
  • Design low-power, low-voltage digital logic functional blocks (combinatorial, sequential, synchronous, asynchronous, state machines, etc.)
  • Collaborate and work effectively with other members of the IC design group and with teams in other design centers.
  • Use MatLab, and/or MathCad to perform theoretical analysis of behavioral level and system level design ideas for mixed signal circuits and systems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-15 years experience in mixed analog/digital IC design is preferred.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering (MS and/or PhD) is desirable.
  • General knowledge of the tradeoffs involved in using various analog and digital circuit design techniques to optimally implement system functions is highly desired.
  • Must be skilled in the use of high-end CAD tools and various levels of CAD simulation/design environments.
  • Experience with the use of Cadence tools like Analog Artist, AMS, Spectre, Spectre-RF and Assura simulation verification extraction tools is highly desired.
  • Experience with the use of Cadence Verilog (XL/NC), Virtuoso/XL layout and other system simulation tools and timing analysis tools will be beneficial.
  • Strong technical communications skills including verbal and writing skills for documentation is required.
  • Mixed-signal IC design in the field of very low power portable and/or implantable medical devices is highly desirable.
  • Some knowledge or experience in system level simulation and other synthesis tools from Synopsys will also be beneficial.
  • Experience in Unix/Linux OS, Shell scripting, TCL, Perl, AMPLE, and some moderate use of C/C++, SkillTM programming is desirable.
