Panel: Economic Mega-regions - Where Does Oregon Fit?

The concept of the national economy is being eclipsed by the more relevant "Mega-Regional Economic Model" where economic clusters and synergies follow along geographic space that is greater than any single metropolitan area. If the Northwest mega-regional economy can be defined as extending from British Columbia to San Francisco, what is Oregon’s slice of that pie? If no sub-region can do all areas well, what should Oregon’s bioscience cluster focus on? Should we get involved in a talent arms race? What are the high growth areas now, and what are they likely to be going forward?

Moderator: Sarah Garrison, Business Development Officer, Oregon Economic & Community Development Department

Oregon Bioscience in 2020: Emerging Market Value of Oregon's Native Assets

Health care products are moving ever closer to treating each patient uniquely. These integrate sensors and information technology with biochemistry and genetics to produce targeted diagnostics and treatment given genetic type, patient history and environmental influences. Therapy development will be increasingly managed via virtual companies that contract out all functions once they have a candidate drug, device or service. These factors play to Oregon’s strengths and native assets. This panel, addressing this opportunity Oregon has to acquire a leadership position, will discuss virtual bioscience, the business model and go-to-market strategy; define how efforts are anticipating future directions of health care and review what will accelerate these developments.

Moderator: Arundeep Pradhan, OHSU Technology Collaborations

Panelist 3: The future of diagnostics - Bob Buck,LABfx and QuantRx

As former CEO of Pixelworks, Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s former economic advisor, and the founding chair of the Oregon Council for Knowledge and Economic Development (now Oregon InC.), Alley brings a comprehensive perspective to the economic landscape of Oregon.
