The Oregon Bioscience Association BioCatalyst Program offers unemployed or underemployed individuals training and job placement assistance for existing and future positions in the bioscience industry. The BioCatalyst Program is offered free-of-charge to participants through grants from the Oregon Talent Council, WorkSource Oregon and additional sources. Graduates will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the program. BioCatalyst alumni will have an opportunity to meet with company hiring personnel and will remain connected through regular networking events.
To qualify, you must be located in Oregon and SW Washington and unemployed or underemployed. You must have held a previous job (no recent graduates) and available for a mixture of half and full-day training.
The only formal education required is a high school degree or G.E.D. though some background or experience in the bioscience, advanced manufacturing or tangential industries would be helpful.
The BioCatalyst Program offers three different training programs based on grant availability and interests. Each program consists of approximately 80 hours of classroom training:
- Quality Assurance: Quality Assurance focuses on ensuring quality and consistent products, avoiding problems and correcting mistakes. Delve into quality assurance topics with classes including Current Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO 13485:2016 Internal Auditor Training and Root Cause Analysis for Corrective and Preventive Action as well as information on working in regulated industries. Explore upcoming Quality Assurance classes.
- Medical Device Foundations: Interested in joining the medical device industry? The Medical Device certificate covers a wide range of topics tailored to medical device companies. Classes include Overview of FDA Requirements, Preparing for Regulatory Inspections, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Project Management and Design of Experiments. - Advanced Manufacturing: The Advanced Manufacturing certificate focuses on Lean Six Sigma training. Learn the theory and application of tools and methods for successful completion of improvement projects in a manufacturing business environment. Tools for the application of the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) improvement strategy are introduced with hands-on exercises and tutorials. Application: To be considered for the BioCatalyst Program, you must submit this application. Due to our partnerships, you may be asked to fill out applications through other agencies in addition to the Oregon Bio application.
