Job Summary:
Vir Biotechnology is seeking an experienced Sr. Scientist to join a fast-paced interdisciplinary team passionate about process development of viral vaccine vectors. Depending on the individual’s expertise and strengths, this role will encompass upstream and/or downstream process development.

Responsibilities:
• Plan and conduct viral vector process development studies from experimental design to analysis as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Present data and solicit feedback within and across functional groups.
• In a team-based environment, share expertise to advance the development of innovative virus production and/or purification approaches.
• Transfer and manage process development work at external contract research labs.
• Advance vaccine vector production/purification methods and supporting analytics.
• Develop process controls for vector development and use analytics to quantify virus yields, purity, and product characterization.
• As needed, participate in the development of patent applications, publications, and documentation to support regulatory submissions.
• Serve as internal specialist working closely with cross-functional teams and external partners (CMOs, Suppliers, etc.).
• May act as advisor to senior management and subject matter expert in the process development group.

Qualifications and experience:
• BS/MS/PhD in a scientific or engineering field
• BS 11+ years, MS 9+ years, PhD 5+ years’ experience in industry
• Strong experience in upstream and/or downstream process development.
• Working experience in mammalian cell or virus culture, bioreactor production methods, and aseptic techniques.
• Specific background in large protein/virus chromatography and TFF/UF/DF preferred.
• Capabilities in process development and analytics, such as bulk harvest and purification, sample preparation and testing.
• Knowledge of protein and nucleic acid based molecular analytical methods including, ELISA, Western blot, immunofluorescence assays, RT-PCR, ddPCR, extraction methods and quantitation.
• Ability to apply process development experimental approaches, such as DOE, and engineering principles for scale-up of bioprocesses that enable multi-site process development and manufacturing.
• Experience developing cGMP compliant processes and working within a quality system desired.
